Big Brother is Keeping Records...

...of every phone call you make. That's right, the government is trying to track every phone call made in the US. You can read about it here. I want our nation to be safe as much as the next person, but not at the expense of individual freedoms. The article states that the phone calls of tens of millions of Americans are being tracked. Does the government really think terrorist ties are that far-reaching? When does it stop? Even though our phone calls aren't currently being taped, you have to wonder when they will be. If this has been going on since 2001, how many other invasions of our privacy are taking place that we still don't know about? It's pretty scary to speculate that there may come a day in this country when I can't pick up the phone and have a discussion with a friend about my concerns with the government without being flagged as a potential threat.

uhh, katie i hate to sound like a conspiracy theorist and burst your bubble, but all of your phone calls, emails, and faxes are recorded and analyzed by a multinational project known as echelon. google it.

the funniest thing about this article is that congress wants to call the phone companies before them for an explanation, and not the white house. how idiotic.

additionally, i couldn't help but suppress a laugh when i read that the inquiry into the warrantless eavesdropping program has been dropped because the justice department's lawyers were denied security clearance by the agency they are investigating. wow, who would've guessed?

this is why politics is a waste of time: endless frustration over things we cannot control.
